We went through a very long security line just to find out that our flight is delayed four hours. Too bad it wasn't delayed yesterday! :-) So now Brennan is going around and around on the moving sidewalks making the best of it. I wonder if he can do that for four hours? Lol.
We'll miss our connection in Hong Kong because we get in around 11:00 PM. There aren't any more flights to Guangzhou, so we will spend the night at the airport. It actually is a nice airport, so hopefully it won't be too bad.
We'll finally get to Guangzhou Monday morning at 9:00 AM (which will be North Carolina's Sunday night at 9:00). Hopefully we'll still get Kate on Monday!!!!!

Great post Wendy!!! Thanks!
I didn't even know Brennan had packed a tackle box- so happy he knew not to bring fishing hooks! He was sad we couldn't find any water to fish in because he has started a journal of "Places He's Fished" and was really hoping to add a new place. He handled it well though!
We're finally back at our hotel and it is almost 11:00 PM. Since we couldn't fish, we rode the shuttle back to the airport to grab a bus to New York City. We were hoping to take a Night Lights Bus Tour, but the theme of the day seemed to be "late"... this time it was rush hour traffic. We missed the tour by about thirty minutes, so we decided to check out Times Square and of course had to go into the huge Toys R Us store! Since I saved money by not going on the Night Light's Tour, I let Brennan pick out a Lego Set (which made him very happy, especially when he found one that had a fish in it). Brennan is very happy that he has finally been to New York- even if it was only for a few hours.
We'll head back to the airport tomorrow in order to board our flight at 2:30 PM. I talked to my contacts in China and found out that the person picking us up is named Peter. I even have his cell phone number, which makes me feel much happier in case I don't see him at the Guangzhou Airport as planned.

I am so thankful to the lady that gave us food vouchers AND a hotel! Good things keep happening! Instead of spending my alone time with Brennan in China we got to spend it in NYC!

Stuck in New York
Hello everyone,
This is Dee's sister Wendy here. After anxiously awaiting their departure today it didn't quite happen as planned. Due to excessive wind in Raleigh, NC their plane to Newark was delayed. They missed their connection to Hong Kong by ten minutes!
Thankfully though my sister asked the gate agent if there was any possibility they could get at least some food vouchers since they were on a budget, even though that is something usually not granted due to a weather condition delay. The agent came back with food vouchers AND a free hotel! The blessings do really keep coming. Thank you gate agent. I'm so thankful they didn't have to spend extra money on a hotel for the night.
They checked into their hotel and then of course the first thing Brennan wanted to do was find somewhere to fish. He apparently has a tiny tackle box in his carry-on luggage (a normal 8 year old thing to carry in your carry-on - smile). They walked around their hotel for a while trying to find a lake, a pond, a river, a creek or any source of water. I'm not sure what his plan was... to perhaps make a fishing pole out of a branch or simply drop in a hook dangling from some fishing line?
They were not able to find a water source so they are now on an adventure to downtown New York by a bus from the airport. Brennan wanted to be able to say he was at least in New York. They will be leaving tomorrow at the same time - same itinerary (except one day late).
Even though a little sad at first, as always my sister and Brennan are making the best of their adventure together in New York.
I will be keeping you posted.... Wendy

One more night
My second grade classroom is pretty organized, progress reports are done, and I'll say goodbye to 22 adorable kids tomorrow at 10:30 AM. It's been a wonderful year! My amazing assistant will complete the day with them at 11:40 AM and finish organizing, cleaning, etc. for me! Thanks Sue- you're the BEST!
Our suitcases are packed and ready! To celebrate our last night as a family of three we went to Brennan's favorite Mexican restaurant. Next time we walk in there, we'll have to ask for a table for four!!! Brennan said he hopes Kate likes Mexican food! We also went to buy Brennan a new rolling backpack- he always promises to carry his backpack only to hand it to me right after security. Hopefully with a rolling backpack, he'll make it all the way to the gate! He said he'd even save some room for Kate's things on the way home! He'll probably make her roll it though- hee hee. I can't wait to see the two of them together!
Our plane departs for Newark at 12:35 PM. We go from Newark to Hong Kong and then to Guangzhou. We arrive in Guangzhou at 9:45 PM on Saturday (which is 9:45 AM Saturday Eastern Time). We'll be staying at the White Swan Hotel in Guangzhou http://whiteswanhotel.net/ which we're excited about!
We'll write again from China!

Practice blog
My sister is going to take over blogging for me while I am in China. Apparently China doesn’t allow blogger to work, so I’ll send an e-mail to Wendy whenever possible and she’ll post for me. For our first practice I wanted to tell you about my son’s first bass tournament! There were fourteen boats entered in the tournament and his boat came in fourth place! Of course he was the only child entered in the contest!
A good friend named Thanos has become Brennan’s fishing buddy. He’s an amazing man that we met at the lake in the Fall. He’s taken Brennan fishing about three times a month since then. He LOVES fishing as much as Brennan does (which is hard to believe). Thanos was a fishing guide and truly knows what he is doing- so they often catch fish! They have gone in the pouring rain, the super hot days, the cold days, and everything in between. They often go fishing for about six hours…. Although their record was about eleven hours! It’s a win win for all of us! Brennan is super happy and Thanos’ wife is happy she isn’t having to fish every weekend anymore.
So Thanos called the director of the tournament to see if there was an age limit. When he found out that there wasn’t, he signed them up right away! They woke up the original scheduled date only to find out it was rained out. They practiced the weekend before the new date by getting up at 4:45 AM and going to the same lake to check it out. They are pretty serious about this fishing business! It’s amazing how easily Brennan wakes up at 4:45 AM to go fishing but has a hard time waking up at 7:00 AM to go to school. J
They had so much fun, and we are so thankful for Thanos!

Another Grant!!!
We received another grant from A Child Waits Foundation! I started crying when they called to tell me that they will award us $3,500.00! It truly is amazing- we keep getting what we need exactly when we need it. I needed to order crisp $100.00 bills to pay the hotel and other China fees and so needed the money VERY soon. I had faith that it was going to work, but I was getting a little nervous. It is almost exactly the amount we needed! We are blessed in so many ways! I am counting down the days to travel and will sleep easier tonight because the final financial pieces are falling into place!
I truly hope I can pay it forward someday! A Child Waits and Golden Dawn will always hold a special place in my heart! This journey of faith has been amazing! The amount of people who have helped us in so many ways truly makes me speechless! Thank you EVERYONE!!!
It means so much to me to make this trip with Brennan! I wish I could put into words how much the grants, the fundraisers, the donations, the prayers, the toys and clothes, and the good wishes truly mean to us! I am truly one of the luckiest people in the world!
I can't wait to bring Kate home! We leave in eight days!!!!

We have our plane tickets!
Brennan and I will be traveling to get Kate! It truly is an answered prayer that Brennan can go with me! We'll be leaving on June 3rd and will arrive home at 9:27 PM on Father's Day (June 19th). We are so excited! Kate will join us on June 6th... we plan on going to an aquarium, a zoo, several parks, and many walks along the Pearl River. We also hope to spend a lot of time at the pool!
